Details

A large Japanese lacquer repaired Shigaraki jar. Shigaraki is one of the Six Ancient Kilns, and is located in the Shigaraki area east of Kyoto. The bulbous unglazed stoneware jar (tsubo) covered with numerous lines of black lacquer repair over old breaks. In Japan, unlike the West, ceramic fragments and repaired pieces are highly valued and often prized possessions of tea masters, potters and flower artists.
