Details

A Japanese forged iron incense burner in the form of a seated rabbit. The rabbit is a symbol of abundance and fecundity, but also a symbol of longevity. It is traditionally thought that a rabbit resides in the moon eating mochi rice cakes of longevity. The hand forged rabbit with long ears, sits on its haunches, with its head turned slightly to the side. Incense would be placed inside the body of the rabbit and the smoke would emerge from the rabbit's slightly open mouth. The base of the incense burner with a cryptic incised inscription.
