Details

A fine small Japanese chest from the Sakata region. The chest of keyaki (zelkova) wood for the exterior and drawer fronts and kiri (paulownia) wood for the interior. The front of the chest with a pair of sliding doors and large drawer to the left of three smaller drawers. The sliding doors opening to reveal a drawer and a false locking drawer, which secures a nested kiri wood box. The center post between the drawers with a secret compartment and narrow kiri wood box. With iron fittings including square (kakute) handles. With wear and damage from use and age, including losses to the inset side handles
