Details

A Japanese scholar's ceramic water dropper (suiteki) in the form of a dog sitting on its haunches. The water dropper of Ofuke ware, from the Mino kilns in Gifu Prefecture, with a crackled clear-cream glaze. The well loved water dropper with silver lacquer repairs (kintsugi) to the dogs tail and one ear. The water dropper is used as a reservoir of water when grinding ink or to dilute an ink mixture in the inkstone. The water immerging from the dog's mouth and the ink stone with a secondary hole in the dog's back to control the water's flow by creating a vacuum. With minor chipping and wear from age.
