A heavily weathered cross section of a Philippine molave wood (Vitex parviflora) tree. Molave wood is a very dense hardwood commonly used in tools and mechanisms where durability was required. The wood when freshly cut is blond, but when heavily weathered turns grey and gains deeply grained surface.
