Details

A bronze collapsing traveling lantern, chochin, consisting of two pans which when opened has an according paper light housing. The top of the lantern with a hinged door to allow access to the light housing, with the Chinese character (与) perhaps indicating it belongs to someone with a surname which incorporates the character. A likely example being Yohei (与平). The top further decorated with the pierced designs of cherry blossoms in various stages. The lantern with a hinged handle and ring for suspension. 
Late Edo Period (1600-1868)
5 ¼” diameter x 13” high when open
