kintsugi, gold lacquer repaired, Seto ware ishizara earthenware plate with dramatic umanome, or "horse-eye" pattern. Simple plates of this type were commonly used by roadside restaurants and rest houses along the Tokaido road to sever travelers stew. The heavy utilitarian ware designed for heavy use were mass produced and popular for their durability. The plate later broken and repaired using kintsugi gold lacquer repair
