A Korean painting of the seated Buddha. The buddha with his hands in Vitarka mudra, (teaching or discussion gesture) is used with Buddhist iconography to symbolize the transmission of the dharma, or the truth teachings of the Buddha. In this mudra, the thumb and index fingers touch, creating a circle that symbolizes an uninterrupted flow of wisdom. The Buddha sits cross legged on a lotus pedestal which is supported on waves and flowers. The painting with wear, damage and extensive creasing
