Details

Japanese rectangular ceremonial sake cask, sashidaru. The cask with dramatic split red lacquer and black lacquer design. While there are numerous container forms used for sake, this rectangular sashidaru form was popular during the Edo Period for serving and storing sake for important celebrations and weddings. The form was particular popular amongst the samurai class who often used the form while traveling. The cask with wear and damage from use and age and with some losses including the cask’s stopper and feet
