A Japanese lacquer worker's work and storage box. The box with several drawers for storing the artisan's tools. One of the drawers missing. It was common in the Tohoku region for artisans to remove a drawer to be used separately as a tray and are often missing. After each project a small amount of lacquer would dry in the top of the box, over the years gradually creating a painterly surface.
