A very rare and unusual Japanese hanagasa, flower hat, or ichimegasa, city woman hat, with gold leaf and finely painted floral design. The hat with several of the Seven Autumn Flowers (aki no nanakusa) including susuki grass (eulalia grass), hagi (bush clover) and morning glory (asagao). The hat additionally decorated with chrysanthemum (kiku), one of the most famous symbols of autumn, executed in raised gofun, seashell lacquer. With wear to gold leaf from use and age revealing the black lacquer undercoat. On contemporary metal stand.
