A Japanese bronze portable brush and ink case (yatate). The yatate was a popular device for wealthy gentlemen to carry tucked into their obi belt, should the need arise to write a brief note. The shaft of the brush holder with a hinged top and divided interior for brush and paper cutter, now missing. The large hinged ink reservoir with miniature ink stone an interior hinged door for the storage of a seal and seal cake, and attached to the brush holder by an unusual bronze link chain.  With contemporary metal stand
