A Japanese wood sculpture of Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu, a form of Kannon, Bodhisattva of mercy, purity, goodness and the personification of infinite compassion. This form is literally the "Kannon of the Wheel of the Wish Granting Jewel". The "Jewel" referring to the nyoi houjyu jewel which is thought to bring enlightenment and rid one of all earthly desires and thereby satisfy all ones wishes. Kannon is depicted seated in a pose of royal ease with a pensive continence with his slightly tilting head resting on a raised arm. The sculpture with four arms, one holding the houjyu "jewel". With old wear and damage including loss to one foot.
